About Mckean
The Short Resume
Mckean Nowlin has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Missouri. She is also a classically trained chef, having completed a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Miami, FL. She has worked in education, politics, non-profits, startups and angel investing. She has never wanted to work in a restaurant.
Who is Mckean?
I am the product of artists and entrepreneurs. I am not afraid to try new things and have had a “what’s the worst that can happen” attitude most of my life. I want to push boundaries of thought and expectations, as well as the occasional taste bud. My art is expressed in future trends and food creation. I love teasing out the patterns in markets and society that point to where we are going, both broadly as well as for specific niche markets, just like I love to try new concoctions on my family (ghost pepper butterscotch cookies anyone?). In either case you can get something wonderful or terrifying. Maybe both. Life is messy and perfection is boring. It is in the mess of life that you find new associations and connections. I like being in that mess and seeing what new things rise out of it. Emerging tech is a hot mess, but I know beautiful things will come from it.

Perfection is the enemy of accomplishment, and I want clients who want to accomplish great things. I am highly selective of who I work with. I want clients who aren’t aiming for perfect. I will be the coach in the corner, the person you can ask the dumb questions of so we can figure it out together. I will problem solve with you and help you find your “ah-ha moments”. As a founder the buck stops with you but sometimes you need a person who can help you skin that buck as well. I’m here to help you where you need it. I will work with you to understand your organization and help you see where you are going and where you want to go as a company and founder.
What does Mckean do?
I help where you need help. Being an expert generalist is hard to describe to people who are used to our specialization society. I’ve had colleagues refer to me as a utility infielder, a Swiss army knife, or a loaded gun. From my broad educational background and experiences I have a surprising array of skills and the tools for whatever job is needed. I use all of this to help where people need help, from pitch decks to strategic plans. I break down challenges and opportunities to help you think through all the angles. I work collaboratively with you to address your needs.
